What’s going on outside my kitchen this month dominates everything right now. In the past week, more than 40 inches (about 1 meter) of snow has fallen on Boston and another storm is supposed to arrive tomorrow. These icicles have taken up residence in the past few days – the opposite of what Celia at figjamandlimecordial, the In My Kitchen host extraordinaire, must be experiencing in Australia this month.
Though soup and tea help soothe after rounds of snow shoveling, I’m trying to think tropical by blaring reggae as I cook and buying produce from warmer climes. My husband recently brought this orchid into the kitchen for a contrast with the outdoor landscape of white and gray.
I stocked up on persimmons and mangoes…
…and made coconut bread for my reading group.
I also spent one of the snow days making yeasted cinnamon buns.
In short, I’m making the best of a frozen season, but I eagerly await those first sprigs of mint to poke up in my garden!
It all looks good! And I am tired of this cold nasty weather!

Those icicles are incredible! I’ve never seen anything like it. I will happily swap climates though. After relentless weeks of heat I am so ready for cooler weather. I love the look of cinnamon buns. They are on my list of things to make this year (when the weather cools 🙂 )

Impressive icicles! And cinnamon buns. I was sort of envious of all the snow in Boston until I read today that mass transit keeps shutting down there. Ugh! Stay warm.

It’s a dilemma – more time for baking but getting to the grocery for ingredients is quite a challenge, even with a car!

Clara, that first photo is AMAZING! I can’t imagine standing close enough to take it – they look so sharp! Even more impressive is that you have an orchid in those sorts of temps – I can’t even keep one alive here! Your cinnamon buns look divine! Stay warm! x

Clara, I hope you’re warm & toasty as we ‘speak.’ It’s snowing here in Oklahoma — again! (Unheard of… or at least not typical.) A pan of your cinnamon buns would make things much more tolerable! 🙂 I think I need to go bake something…
